That is a common theme these days. Homeowners are squeezed and looking for the lowest price. Some contractors are desperate and looking for anyone who is willing to pay them to do anything. This is a dangerous combination.
I could go on for pages about the virtues of cost vs. Value and life cycle costs vs. Initial purchase costs, but I won’t. Someone told me a long time ago that you usually get what you pay for and there is no free lunch. I find that is still true today.
So the next time you are looking to make a major investment in your home or anything else for that matter, please consider the costs associated with choosing the lowest bidder. Trust me they are there, they are simply hidden. Bill Bell, Gotcha Covered, 302.542.3747

Starting a new project today. When we ran into this I thought it was worth a post. This “IS NOT” how you should flash out a window. For starters they used tar paper instead of Tyvek. Very old school. They didn’t use any type of flashing tape around the windows. This creates a perfect environment for moisture and mold problems, not to mention air infiltration. Well, we are finally preparing to paint the exterior of our Lewes Delaware project. We have a combination of materials to paint. The siding is fiber cement board and the battens are cellular PVC. The fiber cement is already primed. However, the PVC is not. We have done all the necessary prep work. Here is a painting tip. Because we are painting the siding a barn red, we had the primer tinted a dark gray color. Using a dark color behind red colors will really help them cover. It’s counter intuitive, but trust me it works well.
