Here are the cedar shingles we chose for this project. They are prefabricated panels with a plywood backer, a vapor barrier, and cedar shingles. They are 8′ long and easy to handle, Are real cedar shingles

We have been working on siding for a while now. This is a fiber cement board siding. It is referred to as vertical siding or board and batton. Fiber cement siding is a good choice in areas where termites can be an issue. It is also a good substitute for real cedar siding and doesn’t require nearly the maintenance that wood siding does. One of our signature features whenever doing large remodel projects is to design additional storage space that is easily accessible, large, and appropriate for storing everything. This is a 13′x 20′ conditioned space. We used cedar wafer board instead of drywall and put a commercial loop pile carpet on the floor. Should be plenty. Bill Bell, Gotcha Covered, 302.542.3747

Well ,we are back outside working on the siding. what you see in this photo is the cedar shake shingles going up. We have stained them green to match the metal roof we installed. The vertical siding will be painted a barn red color. Bill Bell, Gotcha Covered, 302.542.3747

one way to dress up a bathroom is with some tile. It can be expensive but here is a good way to keep it reasonable. We started with a basic “Matte white” porcelain 4″x4″ tile. They are very inexpensive. Than we added a glass tile accent. They are not so inexpensive, but you only need a few. Bill Bell, Gotcha Covered, 302.542.3747

One of the most “Green” things we can do in construction is reuse materials. Our existing structure had wood floors when we started. In one room they were too far gone and we had to tear them out. The other two rooms were in pretty good shape. We decided to have some reclaimed heart pine installed in the one room and had the other rooms refinished. Now we have wood floors throughout, it all matches, and we didn’t have to cut down any new trees to do it. That is what I call a “Win Win”. Bill Bell, Gotcha Covered, 302.542.3747

Just before the drywall went up I installed my backer board around the bathtub. It is “Durock” brand which is the standard for wet areas. I like to do this before drywall so they can install right to it and tape all the joints. Bill Bell, Gotcha Covered, 302.542.3747

No matter how well you plan, unexpected things come up. When we started this project we had water. It was working and seemed like we had good water pressure. However, by the time we started hooking up all the new plumbing it was clear we couldn’t pull enough water. The well was old and had galvanized pipe so making repairs was not an option.
The good news is that we discovered this now instead of after moving in. The best we can do is to expect the unexpected. Bill Bell, Gotcha Covered, 302.542.3747

As you can see by the picture, it’s finally time for drywall and trust me this is the way to get it in the house. We left a panel of the plywood off so they could pull it right into the 2nd floor from this boom truck. When the drywall crew comes in you need to be prepared. Have everything and everyone out of the house. You should also have everything you do not want covered in spakle protected with plastic or cardboard. This job is 105 12′ sheets. They will hang it in a day or two and finish it in about a week. The art of drywall is in the finishing, and a good paint job. We will talk about the painting later. While the drywall is going on we will focus on finishing up the siding outside. Bill Bell, Gotcha Covered, 302.542.3747
